Varda Fux

Varda Fux discovered she was adopted at an advance age when she also learned that her heritage is Yemenite. She searched for her biological family for many long years, talked about her story in the Knesset (Israeli parliament) and it was even published in the ‘Yediot Ahronot’ newspaper in 1993. The article notes that the adoptive parents, a couple who immigrated to Israel from Germany, told her they paid $5,000 to get her.

In August, 2018 Varda found her biological family through a DNA test and it was discovered she is the daughter of the late Yocheved Hayoun [link]. The adoption papers claim that the mother abandoned her daughter in the hospital. However, the family says that at the time of the birth, the mother was registered at the hospital with a false name because she and her partner were not married yet. All those years, the mother told the family that she gave birth to the daughter and left a few days later to call her partner. When she returned to the hospital to take her daughter, she was told that the daughter died but she didn’t believe that. For many years the mother, Yocheved, had asked her children to look for the lost daughter. Yocheved passed away a few years before Varda located her family.
